SMS Enrollment & Communication Preferences

Bard College - Longy School of Music uses SMS (text messaging) to communicate important academic and administrative information to applicants, students, faculty, and staff who have elected to receive these communications.

This page explains how SMS enrollment works and documents our consent process for Application-to-Person (A2P) messaging.


How SMS Enrollment Works

Individuals may choose to receive SMS notifications from Longy School of Music through one of the following methods:

Current Students

Current students may enable SMS notifications by logging into the Longy Student Portal and navigating to the SMS Communication Preferences page.

To enroll:

  1. Log into the Longy Student Portal.
  2. Open SMS Communication Preferences.
  3. Enter or verify your mobile phone number.
  4. Select the SMS consent checkbox.
  5. Save your preferences.

The SMS consent checkbox is unchecked by default and requires the user to take an affirmative action before SMS messaging is enabled.

Applicants

Applicants may provide their mobile phone number during the admissions process and choose to receive informational SMS messages regarding their application and enrollment.

This is probably the single most valuable addition for Twilio reviewers.

Consent Language

Users enrolling in SMS communications are presented with language substantially similar to the following:

By checking this box, I consent to receive recurring informational SMS messages from Longy School of Music regarding admissions, enrollment, registration, advising, financial aid, course schedules, campus notifications, and other educational communications. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Consent is not a condition of admission or enrollment. Reply STOP to unsubscribe or HELP for assistance.

Message Types

Longy School of Music sends informational text messages such as:

  • Admissions updates
  • Application status
  • Registration reminders
  • Advising appointments
  • Financial aid reminders
  • Class schedule changes
  • Campus closures
  • Emergency notifications
  • Student account reminders

Longy does not use this SMS program for advertising or promotional marketing. This is consistent with an informational Higher Education campaign.

Message Frequency

Message frequency varies depending on a user's relationship with Longy School of Music and the academic calendar.

Opt-Out

Recipients may opt out at any time by replying:

STOP

They may also update their SMS Communication Preferences through the Longy Student Portal.

Compliance Information 

  • SMS consent is collected directly by Longy School of Music.
  • Consent is not purchased, rented, or transferred from third parties.
  • Users must take an affirmative action (checking an unchecked box) to enroll.
  • Users can withdraw consent at any time by replying STOP or by updating their SMS Communication Preferences.
  • Longy maintains separate SMS Terms & Conditions and SMS Privacy Policy pages.
